How Much Should Commercial SEO Cost?

seo
richard457 asked:

I’ve been referred to a service that charges approximately $5000 for website design and SEO. I’ve checked out the websites they have made for others and they seem to get results with high search rankings for their clients. Is this a competivie price though? I can design my own website fairly easily, I really am just looking for SEO. Is there cheaper, but effective ways of doing this (other than doing it myself)?

    Hey Richard,

It greatly depends on what you want accomplished and how detailed your project is. $5k is pretty standard, but you can get good work done for less. I did a search and this page has some real good SEOs that are recommended. Some do design work as well.

I have to disagree with the first answer. Good SEO definitely is an investment, and it’s an ongoing one. Algorithms change often, and your competitors are constantly working on their SEO too. So there’s no magic answer.

I’d say your best bet is to work with a firm that offers a monthly retainer, or hire someone in house, depending on the level of importance SEO has to your company.

Also, I would never work with a firm that offers web design and SEO. SEO and web design are changing often, and I’ve found that most web designers do not have sufficient SEO knowledge — generally outdated knowledge.

Search engine placement puts you above where SEO places you. Why not try SEP? You should call Onyx with NetBiz.com. Tell her about your company and she’ll help you out because I spent way less than $5000 and I’m on the top of the 1st page of the Yahoo Search Engine Network and Google. 888-847-2226 ask for Onyx.

You can pay for several factors when looking at SEO companies; reputation, location (US or other countries), and quality of the service.

Low end services cost around $400 per month and top tier services can cost as much as $5000 per month or more for super competitive keywords.

Some companies price by your rankings (pay per performance), but you may pay them forever for little to no work once you get rankings.

Search for companies and find out where their clients rank and how competitive are the terms their clients rank for. Client retention is also important, look for companies that have maintained multiple clients since they started offering services, this is a good sign of a company that can work well. No one should go to a company that cannot keep its clients, that’s because they offer low end services or make bad choices like having 1500 clients and 10 SEO’s.

Generally firms that specialize in design are outsourcing their SEO, but that is a general statement. Companies that specialize in a service are generally superior then companies offering a cookie-cutter approach as part of another service.

If you feel they are accomplished in SEO, then see if they will just offer the SEO service.

As with most things in life, you generally get what you pay for.

    Good Luck!

If you have time to design your website; you can spend some more time and learn seo too; instead of paying seo companies. It’s quiet simple indeed. Buy your copy of SEO Book from and start learning. Its quiet simple indeed…

A good website design is only part of the SEO equation. The most important factor in getting higher search engine rankings is the offsite optimization. You need high quality links to your site from other websites.

Even though $5K is probably reasonable, any real SEO company should know that building a site correctly is only 1/3 of the battle.

Here is a good video on the subject:
